Re: [equinox-dev] Invitation for an open Eclipse IDE - Developers community call

Hi Hannes,

I cannot attend at the time of this meeting (7am pacific time). But I would request Eclipse Security Improvement/Modernization be included as a topic.  This issue has recently been opened by a community member interested in improving/modernizing Eclipse Security: https://github.com/eclipse-equinox/equinox/discussions/719

My own personal/project lead interest in Eclipse Security is around these three specific areas:

1) Supporting new encryption capabilities for Eclipse install/update/file transfer...e.g. the SSLContextFactory service, platform-wide sharing of user configured SSLContexts (better/more transparent/more consistent Platform-level encryption security)

2) Supporting secure and dynamic remote services (ECF implements the ref impl of OSGi Remote Services now)...e.g. http2/grpc

3) Adding e2e encryption-based human-to-human/team comm (e.g. Signal) to Eclipse-based tooling

There are plenty of other areas of interest wrt Eclipse Platform Security:  UI/configuration/key mgmt, trust stores/models, etc...some of which are pointed to briefly on the issue).   The ones above are *only* my/ECF's specific Eclipse Security interests wrt current and future IDE.  For example, I would suggest contacting JavaJoe directly to get his thoughts or participation as well.

Have a good meeting.

Scott

Hello fellow Eclipse developers,

the next Eclipse IDE - Developers community call, the last one for this year 2024, will take place soon at

Thursday 19th of December, 14:00 UTC / 16:00 CEST / 10:00 EDT / 19:30 IST

There are no topics pre-scheduled yet and you are invited to bring your own topics.

The next call after that one will be in four weeks at the 16th of January 2025, since I assume everyone will be on vacation at the 2nd of January.

Betreff: Invitation for an open Eclipse IDE - Developers community call

Dear fellow Eclipse developers,

all discussions about the development of Eclipse currently happen in textual
form, but some topics are discussed easier and faster in person and personal
connections can improve.
Therefore I want to invite you to an open Eclipse core developer video call
starting at

Thursday 13th of June, 14:00 UTC / 16:00 CEST / 10:00 EDT / 19:30 IST

and to be repeated every two weeks (given there is constant interest).

Everyone that participates or is interested in participating in the development
of the Eclipse core itself is invited to join, newcomers are explicitly
encouraged to join too. It is planned as an open meeting without a fixed agenda,
where everyone can suggest to discuss general or specific topics, changes or
issues or can ask questions.
This call is dedicated to the development of the core of Eclipse itself, mainly
the top-level projects Eclipse-Platform [1], Equinox [2], Eclipse Java
development tools (JDT) [3] and Eclipse Plug-in Development Environment (PDE)
[4]. It is not intended to provide support for users or consumers of Eclipse,
for that other channels exists.
If specific issues or changes are discussed, the exchanged arguments should be
summarized in the corresponding issues or Pull-Requests and if decisions are
made they should be justified. Of course others not participating in the call
should still have the same chance to influence a decision.

I'm looking forward to see you.

Best regards
Hannes
