[epp-dev] Full .product and branding, instead of depending on org.eclips

Hi all,

I'm evaluating the possibility to have EPP using a different splashscreen than what Platform provides. See https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=484765 for the why.
I noticed that simply overriding the splash screen in the .product doesn't work, as there is a dependency to org.eclipse.platform.ide which takes priority on the splash screen settings. See https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=510522 .
From there, a possible solution/workaround is to remove the dependency to the org.eclipse.platform.ide product and to fully define products (including startlevel et al.) in EPP. Would anyone have an objection for that? Or does anyone have a better proposal to improve that and to allow EPP to easily have richer splash screens? (Please reply on bug 510522)
