Re: [epp-dev] RC1 Testing and Issues

Since it's been there forever, I'd caution against removing it without first asking the broader Eclipse community about removing it. For example, I personally have come to rely on the JEE package having the PDE bits and the DTP bits to help me quick-start a development environment.

We are getting closer and closer to the release... so changes to established patterns (and JEE is one of the popular packages for download) might cause some unforseen ripples...

If you get rid of it, it just means I'd have to install it from the update site - one extra step. But I'm lazy. :)

That said, I can certainly understand your logic about removing it to streamline the package.

How funny. Who put that there? :)
Hope you don't mind too terribly if I remove it?
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=277394
I don't see "pde" in our list of features, so I'll have to see who pulls
it in. Maybe rcp.

Thanks,

David, there IS a plug-in development perspective in the JEE package. It's
been there as long as I can remember.

And just to prove to myself that I'm not hallucinating, grabbing today's
build (20090521-0738_eclipse-jee-galileo-RC1-win32.win32.x86.zip) confirms
it...

CVS, Database Debug, Database Development, Debug, Java, Java Browsing,
Java EE (default), Java Type Hierarchy, _javascript_, JPA, Planning, Plug-in
Development, Remote System Explorer, Resource, Team Synchronizing, Web,
and XML perspectives

But, indeed, even if you had the Java EE Package, there would be no plugin

development perspective. We (well, I) leave PDE out of the Java EE package

deliberately, mostly since the target users are those developing web
applications and we all know the result of including everything all
developers might need.

Yeah... That would do it. Sorry. Grabbed Java instead of Java EE. Duh.
Long week.

Hmm, you are using the Java package? At least it looks like this.
If this is true then the plugin development perspective is not there
because this package is for Java developers only, i.e. without PDE, the
sources, etc.

If it is the RCP package then... it would be a severe error.

Is the plug-in development perspective missing from this EPP package for
RC1? Or am I just missing it?

I'm looking at the win32 version and just seeing the CVS, Debug, Java
(default), Java Browsing, Java Type Hierarchy, Planning, Resource, Team
Syncrhonization, and XML perspectives.

[epp-dev] RC1 Testing and Issues

I'll give a quick +1 for Java EE package (but admit have only tested web
apps on windows).

Just FYI, I have started a "results" page at
http://wiki.eclipse.org/EPP/Package_Testing/Results/JavaEEIDE/20090521
and sent a note to participating dev lists,
and will hopefully get some broader testing.

I did notice there's a few update sites listed now, but not the whole
list.
Is that issue being tracked in a but somewhere? Will we have to "manually"

provide a list for this release?
