[epf-dev] Some thoughts on base_concepts

Hi

This may have been discussed before, so I'd appreciate some feedback before
I think about raising a bugzilla.

I would find it very useful to move the standard categories for Domains,
Disciplines and Work Products from the openup_basic plugin to base_concepts
(or perhaps a new common plugin).

I am working on a number of projects that are independent of OpenUP/Basic
and I would like them to share some common characteristics. I guess you
could say that I want to be able to develop a set of interoperable
processes that are cohesive and loosely-coupled :-)

It would be very useful to be able to use common meta-data (such as those
listed above) to describe method elements. Whilst this would not provide a
complete solution for interoperability, it helps - along with the obvious
benefits of using a shared process meta-model.

I see a possible problem in that base_concepts is currently embedded within
the openup library. However, if the relevant entries were moved to
base_concepts, I at least export that plugin and import into my own
libraries. Alternatively, we could look at establishing a new library that
provides this facility. This would give me (and others) the beginnings of a
common library to improve the interoperability between different methods.

Is anyone out there looking at a similar opportunity at all?

cheers
