Well this is an oldie! CVS and SVN do not have any problems with this
currently. I only noticed the change in the project name after I tried
an import with EGit.

See in my workspace screenshot that I have two projects. The core
project has the name of the model project in the .project file and the
model .project has the same name. However, CVS does not mind
importing.
