IANAL but my view is that changing the namespace from jakarta to javax isn’t really a copyrightable change as it is not material or original.

I would add our organisation in the contributors section if I felt Payara did an original change and add “and others” to the copyright statement. However if we did a wholesale rewrite or added new source files I would add Payara as a copyright holder.

My understanding of the ECA is that the original author retains copyright and licenses their contribution under the EPL 2.0 therefore they should be allowed to add and retain their copyright statement.

There is this document which explains this https://www.eclipse.org/legal/cpl2epl/cpl_copyrightandlicensenotice.php.

Hi,
Let's start with the PMC with this question...  I'm noticing that most people are properly updating the copyright years as they are updating the various source parts.  But, what about the attribution to Oracle?  Should that change or be updated?  I'm assuming it should stay in the code parts, but I think we need to acknowledge that we now have additional contributors that are not from Oracle or it's affiliates.

Here's an example copyright today:
Copyright (c) 2018, 2020 Oracle and/or its affiliates. All rights reserved.

For MicroProfile, we use this generic contribution copyright:
Copyright (c) {DATE} Contributors to the Eclipse Foundation

So, should we leave the original Oracle copyright as-is and add the new generic copyright?  Or, can we modify the Oracle copyright such that it is still acceptable to Oracle?

Copyright (c) 2018, 2020 Oracle and/or its affiliates, and Contributors to the Eclipse Foundation. All rights reserved.
