On the topic of expired binaries, there is a separate conversation with Sonatype happening to get us our own Nexus Pro install to host jakarta.* groupIds for 60 days.  This should be completed sometime this month.

When that's done we should definitely try this release again and iron out any kinks. Rephrased, I'm not sure what will happen when they do migrate us and there are staged repositories -- we may be forced to re-roll during the migration anyway.
