Regarding committers this is not a good idea. Slack might be popoular in some regions and industries, but not everybody uses it (I personally don't and I do not miss it). So while it might be OK for PMC and Project Leads committers should stick with mailing lists. On the other hand, I do not see the benefit compared to mailing lists.

Hi,
Would it be a good idea to create a public Slack channel where we can coordinate GlassFish 5.1 release and communicate with project leads and committers? I personally think that it’s a good idea. If others are ready to use Slack, I’ll do it.
