RE: [eclipselink-users] Spikes, FOSS JPA 1.0 test framework

Dear Doug and Shaun

In a perfect world both problems would have some significance. In a
pragmatic world of limited resources, and given the 'lightness' of the
problems, I agree that there are better things to do. Neither are critical
from my point of view.

For most developers (well, at least myself), the mailing lists have great
importance as a means of communication, and source of information both for
'correct' implementation ("am I doing things 'the right way'") and for
imperfections in the implementation ("is the software product doing things
'the right way'"). It depends on the programmer, of course, but my personal
ratio is about 90% / 10%, if I'm being pessimistic. 95% / 5% otherwise.

I do not expect perfection. Nice to have, of course, but not expected. It
does help 'the rest of us', however, if these imperfections are documented,
when discovered, so that we don't waste too much time following the
specification, but just skip to workaround mode. So I don't think I'll be
troubling the committers, but I may add a message to
http://www.nabble.com/TopLink-Essentials-f31140.html simply referring to
here for the 233296 bug.

Thank you for explaining your product development strategy so frankly, that
helps outsiders like myself as much as the mailing lists, source code, or
blog articles, that we scavenge so desperately for little nuggets of
information...

As the Italians say - "Buon Lavoro", good work.

John

P.S. Forgive me if I pushed a little hard on this topic. Not trying to break
things, just feeling for the edge.
