Symposium and Members, Committers Meeting. The meeting is taking place in
Chicago on September 19th and 20th. These meetings are

There are two main parts to the September Members Meeting –
the Marketing Symposium on Day 1 and the Members Meeting on Day 2. In
this email we will focus on the agenda for the Eclipse Marketing Symposium which
is a half-day education event for marketing and business professionals from
Eclipse member companies. The focus of the symposium is to learn and
share the best practices of marketing products and services to the Eclipse
developer community.

Detailed Marketing Symposium Agenda:
1. Eclipse in the Enterprise –
Jeffrey Hammond, Forrester Research
Abstract: Forrester and 1105 Media recently surveyed over
one thousand Application Development Professionals on what they are developing
with, what types of development they are doing, how they acquire their
development tools, and their attitudes about using open source tools and
frameworks. Jeffrey will present the results of this survey with a special
focus on what it means for the Eclipse organization.
2. A Developer Perspective: Marketing to
Developers – Do’s and Don’ts - Michael Cote, Redmonk
Abstract: Marketing to developers can be a tricky
business. What is the best way to reach the developer
community? Cote, an analyst from Redmonk and Java developer will give his
perspective on the do and don’ts of marketing to developers
3. Panel: Vendor Briefings: How to brief the
press and industry analyst?
Abstract: Ever wonder what is the best way to approach an
editor or an industry analyst and get the results you desire? We will
convene a panel of experts, editors and industry analyst, to learn what they
think is required for a useful briefing.
4. Panel: Maximizing Google
Abstract: Google has changed how we market to
developers. On this panel we will convene people with real-life successes
of leverage Google to drive marketing results.
5. Update of Eclipse in Europe and Asia
Abstract: Eclipse is very popular in Europe and Asia,
however it is sometimes difficult to appreciate the market dynamics.
Representatives from Europe and Asia will give their perspective on Eclipse in
these regions.
6. Anatomy of the Europa Launch - Ian
Skerrett, Eclipse Foundation
Abstract: At the end of June the Eclipse community launch
the Europa release, the annual major release of different Eclipse
projects. This presentation will discuss the different marketing tactics
used to generate interest in Europa and the results achieved for each tactic.
7. Leveraging eclipse.org - Donald Smith,
Eclipse Foundation
Abstract: The eclipse.org web site generates
substantial web traffic and specifically traffic from Eclipse users. The
Eclipse Foundation encourages all members companies to promote their products
and services on the different eclipse web sites. This presentation will
discuss specific opportunities and tactic you can use to promote you product on
eclipse.org.
8. Break-out Session: Eclipse Embedded
and Mobile Marketing Working Group
The Embedded Marketing Working Group is a group of member
companies that help promote the Eclipse projects in the embedded and mobile
community. This group will meet to discuss future collaboration efforts.
We will also be hosting a number of break-out sessions for
special interest groups in the Eclipse community.
