Details:
As you may recall from the Members meeting at EclipseCon,
the foundation will be unveiling new Membership pages by the end of this
month. These new membership pages offer a much richer way to interact
with the hundred-thousand-plus unique visitors that come to Eclipse.org every
day, and the data-driven format will give us lots of flexibility on how and
where your organization information can be presented.
Please do not make any of these URL’s public yet, but
it is OK (and expected) for you to share this email internally as part the
testing our process. In other words, please feel free to punt to your
colleagues! There are three things we need you to do, #1 and #2 require
looking around, #3 requires action:
#1 “Eclipse Membership Landing Page”
Here is the main “Explore the membership” page:
http://www.eclipse.org/membership/indexBETA.php
Take a look around and let us know if you have any
suggestions.
#2 “Explore the Membership”
From the main landing page link above, look around the
“Explore the Membership” pages. The data is not at all
complete. Some of your organizations are listed with sample data, some
are not. But browse around and see if you are comfortable with the
layout, lists and general feel of the new “Explore the Membership”
pages.
#3 “Add or Modify Your Organization information on
the ‘Explore the membership’ Pages”
To modify the Membership Page for your organization, you
need to have an account for the Eclipse Portal. If you are a committer,
you can simply login with your committer user name and password.
Otherwise, you need to request an account, or ask someone on your staff to
request an account (or you can do both):
http://portal.eclipse.org/myfoundation/portal/password-request.php
To Login to the portal once you have your account, click
here:
http://portal.eclipse.org
Once you login to the portal, scroll down to the
“Membership Page” area and edit your short description, long
description, URL and LOGO’s (or keep them as they are if we have seeded
one for you). You can use HTML in both short/long descriptions.
Changes take place instantly, you can click the “see
your page” link on the portal, or you can browse to it through the
“Explore the membership” link. There is also an FAQ page on
the new membership pages that may be helpful:
http://www.eclipse.org/membership/faq/editMembershipPage.php
Suggest Tags for your Organization
While exploring the membership, you will notice there are
tags related to organizations. You will notice that you cannot modify the
tags for your organization in the portal – this is by design because all
tags need to be reviewed by the foundation for consistency and accuracy.
Take a look at your tags on your membership page, and please try out the
“Suggest More Tags” feature.
Your attention to experimenting setting up your information
this week will be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
- Don
