Re: [eclipse.org-eclipsecon-program-committee] feedback regarding Eclipse 5 talk

If the plan is for the Modeling Symposium to be an extended talk plus a BoF, and for the Eclipse 5 to be a standard talk plus a BoF, why not just have the talk parts at different times -- for example, Modeling on Tuesday 17:00 - 18:00, and Eclipse 5 on Tuesday 16:30 - 17:00. We have three BoF times on Tuesday night (19:00-20:00, 20:00-21:00, 21:00-22:00) so scheduling the BoFs at different times isn't a problem.

If John really wants time for discussion, then perhaps just make the Eclipse 5 talk an extended talk and schedule it (for example) at 15:00 - 16:00 on Tuesday. While we prefer not to schedule an extended talk in one room while all the other rooms have two standard talks, we have done that in the past and we can do it again if we need to.

(BTW I suggested limiting BoFs to Tuesday only because last year no one wanted to do a BoF on Wednesday, since that was party night.)

I'd greatly prefer we find a way to schedule this so that the Modeling Symposium and Eclipse 5 do not collide.

What kind of options would we have ?

No, its me as well :-). I would also favor to not let these two sessions collide.

The only reason that comes into my mind is the hence Eclipse 4 contains a lot of modelling content, it was created by "modelling people". Not all modelling people where involved but Eclipse 4 committers needed to know what EMF is and all these. (most of them at least)

There is a chance that these people will be at the modelling symposium. Wouldnt that mean that we run the Eclipse 5 talk without the people that created Eclipse 4 ?

(I have people like Tom Schindl and Eric Moffat in my mind)....

Is that just me ?

Hey!

just for me to understand that. Why would that be at the end of the day.
This year we will only have BoFs at the end of the first day. So
putting the Eclipse 5 talk on the first day is fine. Putting it "on
the end" would mean that it overlaps with the Modelling Symposium
which is also at the end of the first day.

That in my opinion would be unfortunate (unless we want Eclipse 5 to
contain no modelling at all :-) ).

I guess what you meant is "Eclipse 5" should be somewhere say in the
afternoon of the first day. (Morning is tutorial anyway)

John suggested to put the talk at the end of a day in order to have some more time after the talk for possible discussions (kind of a similar reason why we put the modeling symposium there)... ;-)

I understand your opinion about not having in parallel with the modeling symposium, but doesn't that mean we shouldn't put the Eclipse 5 talk in parallel with any talk? (I guess it will be a hard competition anyway, why is the modeling symposium special there?)

Right ?

Hey!

I got an answer from John regarding the Eclipse 5 talk and he is
happy with keeping this as a standard talk with a subsequent BoF
session. So scheduling this talk at the end of the day would make much sense.

Cheers,
-Martin
