Re: [eclipse.org-committers] Experience using GitHub verus Eclipse.org Hosted Git

The experience of the jetty project has generally been positive since moving our main repo to github.    The best thing is that the number of community contributions has increased significantly.    The integration with the eclipse CLA mechanism works well enough and doesn't appear to be a barrier to contributions.

The github issue tracker is good while not being great. What it lacks in features it makes up for with simplicity.   It is a little strange having pull requests and issues in the same number space, but you can live with it as the auto linking is pretty good.

While there is no voting on changes as per Gerrit's -1 and -1, the code review for pull requests is good and allows for detailed discussion of the code.

Hi all,

We are considering moving Orion development to GitHub: https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=489973

Are there any gotcha's or things that we should look out for from folks that have already moved? I'm not looking for the process of moving, which is pretty well described. Rather, I'm interested in things like GitHub Issues versus Bugzilla.

Thanks,
Steve
