As
per the Eclipse Development Process, we are notifying the Eclipse
Membership-at-Large of the intent of Wind River to propose the Device
Software Development Platform as a top-level project.
A brief
description of the project is below. A project proposal will be posted
on www.eclipse.org in a week or so.
The
goal of the Device Software Development Platform is to provide an open
source framework and extensible exemplary tools to support the creation
of embedded applications. Users of the Device Software Development
Platform will find it easier to create plug-ins that work across a wide
range of Eclipse based development environments, operating systems,
connection mechanisms and target architectures. Projects under this
top-level project will initially focus on (a) target management to
enable developers to deploy, debug and analyze applications on a
device, as well as (b) the configuration of operating system and
middleware components.
The DSDP project will work closely with CDT and other Eclipse Projects
to improve the overall platform by adding capabilities needed for
embedded development, such as a asynchronous debugger interfaces and
scalable parsing technology, in a consistent and meaningful way.
Discussion
of the proposal will have its own newsgroup, but until then, discussion
of this declaration should occur in the eclipse.technology
newsgroup. We look forward to input and discussion from the Eclipse
community.
