John, here's a contribution for the new 'Hide the FVB' preference:

I figure we should highlight anything new at this point...;-),

Committers,

Please coordinate with your component team lead and send me your new and
noteworthy items for Eclipse Helios (3.6) M2 by Wed Sept. 16. I'll edit your
contributions into a single HTML document that will accompany the
milestone build when it wraps on Friday.

Here's the template containing the very few guidelines.

Please use the template, and take a minute to review the guidelines, as it
saves work the closer you follow them.

Thanks,
John[attachment "eclipse-whats-new-template.zip" deleted by Eric Moffatt/Ottawa/IBM]

Title: Eclipse "New and Noteworthy" Template

Eclipse "New and Noteworthy" Template

Last revised June 29, 2009

This is the template for the "New and Noteworthy" document that accompanies each Eclipse project milestone build.

Note: This template document is XHTML 1.0 Transitional. Please use the W3C XHTML Markup Validation Service to check your document's markup before submitting. This will detect screwed up HTML tags, images without an "alt" attrribute, and other tedious little details.

Hiding the Fast View Bar

Hide an empty Fast View Bar Hide the FVB

In order to clean up the UI and gain some space in the trim area we've added a new pregerence to allow you to hide the Fast View Bar when it's empty. Note that this option does not inhibit the functionality, if there are fast views in the perspective (or you make a view a fast view) the bar will be shown regardless of the preference setting.
