RE: [eclipse-dev] New way of delivering eclipse?

Ed,
as far as I know (PDE team will correct me if I am wrong) the Update
Manager would require us to increase the plug-in number with each build to
work.

Last time this came up wasn't the consensus to use Update Manager to handle
general downloads?
I don't think we could use BitTorrent ourselves (firewalls and P2P wariness
in a corporate setting) but since you said it would compliment the normal
channels we could benefit from decreased load on the servers.

As 3.0 is approaching, and we are hoping to have a lot of downloads, I was
wondering if we could use other technologies to complement the eclipse site
and the mirrors.
More precisely I'm thinking about Bit Torrent (
http://bitconjurer.org/BitTorrent/). Its peer-to-peer model would unload
charge of our servers and would likely make the download faster for
everybody. Of course, it will probably makes hard to count the number of
downloads, but we know it will a lot anyway :-).
Will this be possible?
