Hi all,
Some months ago we had a stimulating discussion and many interesting
arguments for different UI technologies. Tom had already introduced the
modelled workbench, Yves presented XWT and I argued for basing a UI
model on EMF. There were also interest in styling with CSS. Since then,
many of us have contributed components/projects to illustrate our ideas
and show what can be done with them.
However, there has been almost no discussion about the pros and cons of
each project (and no response/comments to my TM contribution), which I
thought was the major point with e4: Trying out and discussing the
future of Eclipse!
In the last minutes XWT was mentioned, but not TM, although they in many
respects are comparable. I admit XWT is more complete and Java- and
SWT-friendly, but by building on EMF, TM has more potential in my
opinion, e.g. using CDO for shared applications and session management.
However, the point here is not to argue about this, but to stimulate a
discussion about it. I understand that Galileo may have taken most of
you attention the last months, but now that it's ready, I hope we again
can discuss this important topic!
I'm off on a two-week vacation on Saturday, and expect there to be lots
of interesting messages waiting for me when I'm back.
Best regards,
Hallvard
