From the process side, I do believe anyone
given write permissions to the Eclipse.org servers whether it’s code,
web, or download site, does need to be voted in and are considered committers
at least on those components. But I don’t think the project lead needs to
be a committer on everything. In fact, I’m not sure I’ve read the
rule that a project lead needs to be a committer at all. I may just have missed
it, though.

I agree that
Christian should have full commit rights for now. I will check into his
group memberships. To be honest, I’m not sure what Denis enabled.
It was more of an emergency thing to get the website updated.
Still, I view this
as temporary, as I suspect Christian does. Ideally, one of the new
committers on the list might step up to be the project lead. Personally,
I would like to see how this develops before we decide anything.

So Christian would be interim project lead
for MTJ,
but not be committer for MTJ,
but still have commit rights for the
portal and the website,
but not have commit rights for the MTJ CVS
Repository?
That's a very odd situation, especially in
the light of
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=198541
that's trying to standardize UNIX access
rights based
on group membership, Eclipse portal use,
committer
status and votes (conducted through the
Portal).
I'm not 100% sure, but I think that
Christian should rather
be official committer on MTJ, but without
access rights on
the CVS Repository.
Making him committer makes it explicit
that he has something
to say (as project lead), has a vote in
committer votes, and has
the right to change the external
appearance of MTJ on the Web.
Or is there anything against making
Christian committer?
Cheers,

Apparently I should
have called a special meeting to go over the details of the reboot.

Christian will be
the interim project lead until we get the project going again. Sorry if
that wasn’t clear from my earlier email. I’m going to help
out with process-related stuff. Christian has the necessary commit rights
to use the portal and update the website. I was able to request that as
PMC lead.
I will work with
Craig on the paperwork. There is an agreement for his exact situation
that his company will have to sign (Eclipse Committer Employer Consent Form) in
addition to the individual committer agreement he has to fill out. I’m
not sure what his employment contract says, but clearly he will have to verify
that before we can official sign him on. At this point, we have only
requested that he come on as a committer and he’s agreed.

Thanks Doug.
I like the new committer list because of
its diversity.
I'd like to know who's going to be the new
project lead
(and thus going to represent MTJ at the
PMC)?
Knowing that Craig's company is not
sponsoring his EclipseME / MTJ
work is interesting, but - in terms of
legal - is there also paperwork in
place to ensure that they don't have any
right on the code he's contributing?
In other words, does he have the right to
contribute under EPL?
Many contracts give companies a right even
over code
that employees develop during their
spare-time...
Thanks,

0. Sorry for
the confusion. The full and complete initial committer list is:
Arto Laurila, Nokia
Kevin Horowitz, IBM
Gustavo
Paula, CESAR (Motorola Contractor)
Hugo Raniere, CESAR (Motorola Contractor)
Diego Sandin, CESAR (Motorola Contractor)
Craig Setera, EclipseME lead
1. It’s
not an issue anymore. You can ignore my previous message.
2. Craig’s
company does not sponsor his EclipseME work and will not be sponsoring his MTJ
work, which is why I didn’t list it.

I'm slightly confused.
When starting a new project, the complete
committer list is being
voted on. Is the list really complete now
with Arto and Kevin added?
1. In previous messages, we had been asked
about adding both
Doug and Christian as
committers for MTJ as well. Isn't that an
issue any more?
2. I'm excited about Craig Setera joining
the project. Is Craig
self-employed as
EclipseME lead, or what's his affiliation?
Thanks,

That’s
correct. The following commiters will remain on the project:
Arto Laurila, Nokia
Kevin Horowitz, IBM
We have requested
resignations from the inactive committers and Mika is processing that now.

I take it this is not the complete committer list, but the list of adds to
existing committers that have not resigned from the project?

Hi PMC,
As
part of the MTJ project reboot, we are specifying a new committer list for MTJ.
The following committers need to be voted on.
Gustavo
Paula, CESAR (Motorola Contractor)
Hugo
Raniere, CESAR (Motorola Contractor)
Diego
Sandin, CESAR (Motorola Contractor)
Craig
Setera, EclipseME lead
You
should treat this as if we were starting a new project. Please vote.
Doug
P.S. In
our next PMC call, I will update everyone on the history of the project and the
reboot. You can find notes on the recent MTJ meetings surrounding this
reboot on the PMC wiki page._______________________________________________
