Hi Doug,
are the 3 tutorials we got allocated 2-hour (short
tutorial) slots again?
For TM, we could present the same as last year, and
probably some new
stuff that's emerging right now (TCF). But it's not clear
yet how mature and
available the new stuff will be at the time of
EclipseCon.
Given that we'd probably just repeat the same from last
year, I could also
give the TM tutorial slot to somebody else if we think the
community would
be more interested in something else. I could probably do a
long talk on
TM, with focus on TCF instead.
What about using the time for a double-short (4-hour)
tutorial on DD/DSF
for instance? The debugging technology is complex and there
are many
questions about it.
Any
other proposals for talks, or how to use the slots?

Hi
folks,
Since I haven’t seen any
traffic other than Martin, here is my proposal for our track
allocations:
Tutorials (3)
- (1)
Target Management (Martin, Dave)
- (2)
eRCP/eSWT (Gorkem, Mark)
- (3)
Building a debugger on DSF and Flexible Hierarchy (Darin, Pawel)
Long Talks (4)
- (1)
Tools for Mobile Linux (Christian)
- (2)
User focused talk / panel
- (3)
User focused talk
- (4)
User focused talk
Short Talks (10)
- What's
new in Ganymede
- (1)
Target Management (Martin)
- (2)
Device Debugging (Pawel)
- (3)
eRCP (Gorkem, Mark)
- (4)
NAB (Shigeki)
- Emerging technology
- (5)
TmL (Christian)
- (6)
VPP (Mark)
- (7)
RTSC (proposed project lead)
- User
focused talks (e.g. applications of eRCP, TM, NAB, OSGi in embedded, etc.)
- (8)
User focused talk
- (9)
User focused talk
- (10)
User focused talk
I am trying to leave room for
submissions that aren’t specifically DSDP, but are in the embedded/mobile
space. VPP and RTSC are newly proposed projects (only one has been
officially announced).
Thoughts?

Yes, that’s an interesting
idea. One of the things the PC suggested was creative ways to use short
talk slots, e.g.
-
4 talks and a
10-minute Q&A or Panel
-
5 speakers on the
same theme (time limits and delineation will be
enforced)
-
Speedy
demos
A what’s new in Ganymede would
be very interesting. I see TM, DD, NAB, and eRCP as potential
speakers. (Get on the train!!) It would draw collective attention to the
projects in DSDP.
A what’s new in DSDP would be
interesting, too. TmL, VPP, and the (revived) MTJ could cover
that.

Hi
Doug,
given
the allocation of slots, I first thought about
doing
a "Whats new in Target Management"
short
talk.
But
then it struck me that it would be even more
valuable
to have a single combined "What's new
in
Ganymede" talk where each project has a
short
slot to talk about news. I guess this could
even
be a plenary session.
What
do you think, would it worth bringing that
idea
forward to the organizing committee?
Depending
on how things go forward with TCF,
that
might also be worth a slot; but it's hard to
decide
right now.

and EclipseCon
Hi folks,
Sorry for not being in touch on our next meeting.
EclipseCon and my upcoming commercial release are taking a lot of time.
I also have 4 weeks of travel coming up, so I’d like to wait until
October for our next meeting.
That being said, it’s time to start working on EclipseCon
08. I’d like to do this over email the next couple of weeks. I
am again responsible for the Mobile/Embedded Category, which has the
following allocation:
4 Long Talks
10 Short Talks
3 Tutorials (2 hour slots – can be combined if
desired)
As you can see, the Program Committee is pushing for more
short talks this year to get better exposure and diversity of topics.
Short talk speakers will receive a 20% discount (new this year.) The
PC has also done away with separate Panel and Demo allocations, since many
of the Panels weren’t very interesting. If we really want to do a
Panel, though, we should discuss. Demo allocations can either be long
or short talks. It’s up to us.
What I need from you:
·
Would your project like a talk slot?
·
Long, short, or tutorial?
·
Do you know of folks outside our projects that would be interested in
speaking? We should recruit beyond DSDP.
·
Do you want to see a panel discussion? On what
topic?
Please respond by 9/21 (1 week). Then we can
discuss further.
