I would rather not split this out and have a hybrid project.
On the other hand, I do not want to delay things any further than absolutely
necessary. My feeling is we should keep the preprocessor inside MTJ, but do the
next release(s) with our current capability (that is, without
preprocessor).

I was thinking about the preprocessor issues. I'd hate to lose
that support, but I'd also hate to have it hold up the release. I'm
wondering if we should also consider an option where we split that functionality
out of the base plugins and I host it outside of Eclipse? It would take
some work, but it might be the best of both worlds for those that still want
that functionality on top of MTJ.
Thoughts?
