Martin,

There is a Google Summer of Code project
looking at an EFS implementation for WebDAV (http://wiki.eclipse.org/index.php/Google_Summer_of_Code_2007).
That may be a one way to get WebDAV support into RSE. As for Team Synchronize
support, I think your plan makes sense. I didn't expect this to happen
in the Europa timeframe and that is why I have made a 3.3 compatible version
of the Team feature available.

FYI, while Target Management /
RSE has a good FTP provider, it does not yet provide
all the features offered by the
Platform Team/Extras component. For instance, it does
not currently support WebDAV and
does not use the Team Synchronization APIs.
 
I have filed bug https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=185926
as a reminder
for DSDP Target Management that
such functionality should be added in order to
serve as the successor of Platform
Team/Extras: moving WebDAV support to RSE
as an RSE File Service, and creating
a bridge to allow any RSE FileService act
as a provider for Platform Team
Synchronization.
 
This will likely happen after
Europa, and Community Help would be appreciated.
Anybody interested in this migration
work please put yourself on CC of the 
mentioned bug and add your comments.

Everyone, 

The Platform FTP/WebDAV feature has been removed from future 3.3/Europa
builds. The main motivation for this is that the feature is not being actively
maintained and is not production quality. Also, with the inclusion of the
DSDP Target Management component in Europa, we felt it would be best to
stop providing the Platform feature so the community would not be confused
over where to find FTP support for Eclipse. 

If there are people who still use the feature, there is a link to a 3.3
compatible version of the feature on the Team Development Resources wiki
page (http://wiki.eclipse.org/index.php/Team_Development).
