Summarizing the Elevator Pitch call today:
It was decided that it was not necessary (or even desireable) to
articulate the exact software that would be reuseable. Strategic
ambuguity. If we were going to try and go out and get other people to
join, I think this would be bad, but since our current "users" are
already members and they are happy with this, it is ok to leave it.
In this case, I see no advantage to reworking the already existing
words just to try to gain wordsmith glory. It does add a lot to say
that the group contains some big names, however, so I suggest adding a
few words in the middle of the existing elevator speech as follows:
The COSMOS
(COmmunity-driven Systems Management in Open Source) project, with
participation by systems
management vendors such as CA, Compuware and IBM, aims to
provide
an extensible, standards-based platform upon which software developers
can create specialized, differentiated and inter-operable offerings of
tools for system management
