For me personally, it is virtually impossible to attend meetings outside the day job and watching recodings is also very cumbersome.
The ideal case would be to move most important conversations to the mailing list or at least critical decisions. Posting readable meeting minutes is better if the ideal case is not possible.
I am pretty sure this is true of most people wishing to contribute outside their day jobs.
