Re: [che-dev] Migration path for Che 6 users to Che 7

IMHO it should be a doc to tell how to move from a che6 workspace/factory to che7
It would be too diffucult to have a migration script that cover all the corner cases. Also, users would be 'educated' on what are the differences between che6 and che7 and why che7 rocks.

Hi all,

A question arose on Mattermost last week, which I think might be better
served in an email thread - this is also a big topic for others in the
existing Che community as we move to Che 7.

What is the expected process for users of Che 6 with "old" developer
workspaces when they upgrade to Che 7? Will Che take care of updating
the workspaces transparently, or continue to support older workspaces,
or require some manual step that the cluster admins or workspace owners
will need to do to update workspaces for Che 7? Perhaps by committing
all work, creating a factory/CheFile, and creating a new workspace from it?

Thanks!
Dave.
