Re: [cf-dev] Java 8

Hey

Ditto. I discussed this with Julien a while back. There was even a problem on Hudson when compiling with Java 8. However, we should probably start with some compatibility testing (check the Hudson problem, test Embedded and Android) to be ready for an upgrade to Java 8 soon.

Ciao

Hi Kai,

I think the main compatibility issue is with android JVM.

Also a lot of company are still using Java6/7 and pay for maintenance (or not..).

For example Leshan target is still Java 7, JDK 7 public updates from Oracle are ending this month, but you still can pay, or use openjdk/azul JVM.

Hi,

while having accidentally added a class that had been introduced with Java 8 only, I came to wonder if and when we want to start to use Java 8 in Californium. Given that Oracle already has officially seized support for Oracle 7 I do not really see why we should need to stay on Java 7 except for reasons of compatibility with some embedded or mobile platforms (which might be better off with the Java 8 SE or Embedded as well).

Any thoughts?

Regards,
Kai
