Re: [cdt-dev] [cross-project-issues-dev] Indi... GO!

Trust me, these tools are mature. Incubating has a different meeting here.

Cheers,

Doug.

Hi,

I was under impression that "incubating" component: Component in its early development stage, meaning it is not mature yet. I would prefer using IDE which uses only mature components.

From your answer I conclude that:

1.      Eclipse IDE for C/C++ Developers (includes Incubating components) – has no incubating components

2.      Eclipse IDE for C/C++ Linux Developers (includes Incubating components) – has incubating components (linux tools)

Am I right?

Thanks,

Yevgeny

I’m curious to understand what you think incubating means. Why would you want the IDE without “incubating” components?

In reality, incubating is an Eclipse legal term meaning that the projects can use looser IP rules, until they have to release. All projects feeding into the C/C++ IDE have passed the proper IP validations. So I’m not sure why we’re branding packages with incubating anyway.

And the only thing that triggered this was the inclusion of autotools from the incubating Linux Tools project, although I’m not even sure this component is really incubating. It’s pretty mature.

Also, the Linux Tools team has put the C/C++ IDE for Linux together. I’d reach out to them if you have questions about it.

Doug

Hi,

I looked at eclipse download page for indigo to download eclipse C/C++. I am a bit confused :-)

There are 2 options:

3.      Eclipse IDE for C/C++ Developers (includes Incubating components)

4.      Eclipse IDE for C/C++ Linux Developers (includes Incubating components)

I would prefer to install eclipse C/C++ without "Incubating" components, there was such option in previous releases.

I looked at the details of each installation and it seems very confusing.

1.      According to "details" page info, each component in incubating stage will be indicated with "(Incubation)" following their feature name. In features list there was no "Incubation" string. So I am not able to understand which components are in incubating stage.

2.      Also in "Eclipse IDE for C/C++ Linux Developers (includes Incubating components)": eclipse.cdt and org.eclipse.cdt.platform revision is 7.0.0. It should be 8.0.0, right?

Thanks,

Yevgeny
