[cdt-dev] How to make control characters visable?

hi,
	sorry if this question has been answered before, but i have been 
looking around and have not found an answer.  i have also posted this to 
the newsgroup, but have got no responses.

Is there a way to have the CDT editor display control characters, like 
in vi, i can have the spaces show up so i may find trailing spaces and 
tabs characters?

if so how can i turn this on and is there a way to customize the control 
characters to show what i choose. say for a trailing space to show a '-' 
character or a '>-' for a tab character.
