Re: [cdi-dev] IMPORTANT: Jakarta CDI Reboot

Wayne,
I have forwarded this note to Mark and Antoine. I don't know Jonathan. Maybe someone else can reach out to him.
Thanks
Emily

Hello Jakarta CDI committers.

I have responses from all but three of you. I will send out private notes to those three committers to ensure that we give them sufficient opportunity to respond.

I'm concerned, however, that our messages are not reaching them. Perhaps they are not members of this mailing list or our messages are ending up in spam folders. If you have a means of connecting with Antoine, Jonathan, or Mark can you please forward this note to them?

As stated previously, in order to proceed, unless I hear from them, I'll need to remove their committer status. As I stated earlier, if we do end up removing committer status, we'll reinstate it when we do hear from them.

Greetings Jakarta CDI Committers.

This is important. Please read.

The Jakarta EE steering committee has decided to change the patent license for the Jakarta CDI project to the Implementation Patent License. We're tracking this work in an issue on our GitLab instance.

Unfortunately, for various reasons, we can't just change the patent license. Instead, we have to terminate the project and restart. The good news is that we've found a way to make this operation minimally disruptive.

To meet the legal requirements to implement this change, the EMO will reboot the project by simultaneously terminating and recreating it. There will be some repository changes, but I'll have to let the project leads answer any questions that you have about that. My focus right now is in ensuring the continuity of the project team (i.e., ensuring that all of the committers retain their committer status).

Here's the ask... I need all existing committers like yourselves to assert that you intend to continue in the committer role on the rebooted project. You should consult with your manager and/or steering committee representative before making this decision.

Please make the following declaration as a comment on this thread (click the "Reply to comment" link above and right on this comment, and copy and paste the following statement).

I agree to continue as a committer on the rebooted Jakarta CDI project under the Implementation Patent License.

I'd like to "flip the switch" next Wednesday (October 6/2021). At that point, anybody who has not made the declaration will temporarily lose committer status. You'll get your committer status back  after making the declaration (we'll try to restore committer status as quickly as we can). We'll hold this offer open until the end of the year (after that, to regain committer status, you'll have to go through the usual process).

Thanks for your attention in this matter.

Wayne
