[bpel-dev] Exploring the possibilities of adding a Red Hat/JBoss committer to the BPEL Editor team
|
Hi Simon & Michael,
Both of you have been very active on the mailing list, so I suspect you're the majority of the sustaining members of the Eclipse BPEL Editor project at the moment. If not, I apologize for singling you out and hope that this message finds the rest of the team alive and well. :)
Over the last several months, Grid Qian from Red Hat/JBoss has submitted numerous Bugzilla reports with patches for the Eclipse BPEL Editor project. We ended up creating a fork of the BPEL code, with the eventual goal of contributing all patches back to the Eclipse project in the hope that we could simply use the version in the Eclipse repository instead of our own.
The following 19 bugs with patches have already been accepted and committed to the Eclipse repository, including:
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=290083
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=290084
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=290085
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=290090
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=290343
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=290344
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=290345
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=290346
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=290348
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=290349
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=290350
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=290351
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=290352
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=292110
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=290351
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=292111
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=292113
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=292114
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=292115
We've also created a few others that haven't been reviewed yet:
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=297937
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=297935
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=298670
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=298498
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=298387
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=298375
And we probably have a number of other patches for issues discovered during testing that haven't made it into Bugzilla yet.
Ultimately I think Grid and therefore Red Hat/JBoss has demonstrated not only that we want to use the BPEL Editor (we're currently using it in our JBoss Tools distribution), but that we're willing to chip in and help out to drive it forward.
To do so however, it would be easier if we had at least one committer on the Eclipse BPEL Project - probably Grid, who understands the ins and outs of the editor - to help drive functionality and features going forward.
To that end, we would like to suggest that Grid be voted on as a committer on the project. I can't imagine that you would object to another set of hands in the code and I think we have a solid track record of contributions up to this point.
Would you guys or other members of the BPEL Editor team object to voting another committer into the mix to help out? Grid's done a great job in not only finding issues, but fixing them as we find them, and I think he'd be a great asset to your team.
Thanks in advance.
