Hi,
I'm Nick Hofstede from Inventive Designers,
My company is interested in using BPEL as the underlying technology for
some sort of workflow designer, and I'm looking into whether the
Eclipse
BPEL Designer would be a suitable basis for this.
Should this be the case (and the goals described on the website
strongly
suggest it will), then we're interested into becoming actively involved
in the project.
My first goal/test/prototype would be introducing a custom element in
the
BPEL script to be visualized in the editor.
The first thing to do, seemed to be plugging in a custom
extensibilityElementFactory
in order to get the extension elements into the model. This didn't seem
to work however. I posted a message to the newsgroup describing what I
think the problem might be, but haven't had a reply yet. Should I
report
this through bugzilla instead?
Since this kind of extensibility seems to be one of the goals of the
project,
would it make sense to create a sample illustrating it?
Absolutely !
I'm willing to donate the
code I have so far to start this effort (I believe
the code would function, were it not that no-one reads the implemented
extension point, and unfortunately I'm not up to speed enough to
suggest
a patch yet)
Once the model contains the extension, it should be possible to
implement
more extensions providing a custom UI for it without changing the BPEL
Designer code, no?
Does any of this sound interesting to anyone?
Yes, very much. What makes your proposition ideal is that you would be
in the position to quickly say what works about these extension points
that we have and what does not. If you could in addition to creating a
sample, do a write up on this, that would be even better.
It's open source, it's for you to play with, have fun. We'll try to
answer questions if you get stuck.
Best,
-michal
