Re: [birt-dev] To the birtmobile, let's go.

Hi,
What target platform (and java version) is planned for the first
release?
I just briefly looked through the sources - the build has very
specific structure. It looks like there are several historical
layers started from good old PDE build and finished somewhere at
tycho 1.0.0 build with poms.
The target platform definition relies on profiles and the "master"
profile points to 2019-03. And also there is a
maven-toolchains-plugin pointing to JavaSE-1.8
We need to define our policy regarding support for older Eclipse
releases. Personally I would prefer to restart a project with no
support commitments, i.e. to support the actual SimRel version only.
On the other hand we may want to keep the existing target for the
first release to make the first release faster. And then I can try
to configure it with the more modern tycho pomless build and target.
WDYT?
Regards,
AF
P.S. I'm interested to see Eclipse BIRT healthy because I need its
functionality for Eclipse Passage Licensing Operator Client (billing
reports and so on).

May I suggest that we make both Wim and Scott
co-leads? Since we're still in reboot mode, I can just make the
appointment. Give me a +1 (each) and I'll make it happen.
I've also added myself a committer for the reboot so that I
can help with some of the more procedural stuff. I plan to
retire once the project is up to speed.
I'm concerned that the
website
has a lot of stale information. I'd like to delete the site
and redirect to the
PMI page. We'll keep the
repository around so that we can get at the history should we
decide later that something should be revived (e.g., the
documentation). Give me a +1 and I'll make it happen.
We also need to make some sense of the
downloads page. Everything on
that page is so old that I'm thinking that it's best that we
just remove it and start over when you've got the build
going.
The project is currently EPL-1.0. We need to update this to
EPL-2.0. I can take a run at this. It will require updates to
all source file headers, so timing is important. Maybe after
the maintenance release? In the meantime, I'll initiate a
review of the IP state of the project and determine whether or
not we need anything reviewed by the IP Team.
As I mentioned in my earlier email, I think that we should
just close and archive all Bugzilla bugs and remove the
product from Bugzilla, and point folks to the GitHub Issues.
Further, I think that we should close all open pull requests.
If any pull requests are still viable and contributors are
still around, they can pretty easily be reopened. Once the
project is back up and building again, we can invite
contributors to start opening pull requests to join in the
journey forward. Give me a +1 and I'll make it happen.
As part of this effort, we should be working to convert as
many contributors into committers as we can.

Hi All,
The EMO has
restarted this project. I’m a new committer with very
few cycles left in the day. However, I do not want to
let BIRT go to waste. This project still has some good
years in it. I jumped in because BIRT no longer
installs in newer Eclipse versions.
I can program a
bit, and I’m also happy to work on the build. I’m
contributing to a handful of other projects, most
notably Nebula and Platform
AFAICT, the top
priorities are:
- The
project needs a new lead. Are there any volunteers?
If not, I am happy to lead or co-lead.
- We need
the build back. I re-opened [1]
- Ship a
maintenance release AFAP
