Meeting Logistics

No meeting is planned for next week, February 19, 2007, due to the USA Presidents Day holiday. Next meeting is February 26th.

BIRT 2.1.2 Development

Development has been completed for the BIRT code and this has been released yesterday, Sunday February 11, 2007. The web site has been updated so that this is available as the "Latest Release", and the Update Manager site has also been updated.

General Information

BIRT 2.1.2 is the second maintenance release in the BIRT 2.1 release series and is intended to be narrow in scope since the development team is concentrating on BIRT 2.2. BIRT 2.1.2 is part of the Callisto coordinated maintenance release plan (see http://wiki.eclipse.org/index.php/Callisto_Coordinated_Maintenance). The 2.1.2 release is focused on addressing critical bugs identified by the community, including any critical issues raised by other Callisto projects.

The Development Plan for BIRT 2.1.2 is available on the Eclipse BIRT pages (http://www.eclipse.org/birt/phoenix/project/project_plan_R2_1_2.php).

For a list of bugs assigned to the release, refer to Bugzilla: https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/buglist.cgi?classification=BIRT&target_milestone=2.1.2

BIRT 2.1.3 Development

The BIRT 2.1.3 development plan has been posted on the BIRT web pages (see below). Timeframe for this release is still TBD -- with a major factor being the EMO IP process for iText (see below).

General Information

BIRT 2.1.3 is the third maintenance release in the BIRT 2.1 release series and is intended to be narrow in scope since the development team is concentrating on BIRT 2.2. The 2.1.3 release is focused on addressing critical bugs identified by the community.

The Development Plan for BIRT 2.1.3 is available on the Eclipse BIRT pages (http://www.eclipse.org/birt/phoenix/project/project_plan_R2_1_3.php).

For a list of bugs assigned to the release, refer to Bugzilla: https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/buglist.cgi?classification=BIRT&target_milestone=2.1.3

iText and the Eclipse IP Process

Wenfeng pinged the EMO legal folks via email last week and there is still no ETA for iText to have completed the IP process.

The status of this item in the IP process can be reviewed at: https://dev.eclipse.org/ipzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=1007

BIRT 2.2 Development

BIRT 2.2 M5 candidate build has been posted for community review. Assuming this is approved, the M5 release will go out next week - including All-in-One packages etc.

The Development plan was updated last week to reflect that the XML Emitter (see last week's minutes) and Graphical SQL Query Builder (see below) projects are no longer scheduled for the release.

Mike asked about BPS documents for the Crosstab project. Wenfeng will touch base with the developers to see if these are ready to be published.

General Information

The next major release of BIRT is BIRT 2.2, scheduled for June 2007 as part of the Europa Simultaneous Release (http://wiki.eclipse.org/index.php/Europa_Simultaneous_Release).

The Development Plan for BIRT 2.2 is available on the Eclipse BIRT pages (http://www.eclipse.org/birt/phoenix/project/project_plan_R2_2_0.php). A number of BIRT Project Specifications (BPS) relating to BIRT 2.2 have been posted on the BIRT Wiki.

For a list of bugs assigned to the release, refer to Bugzilla: https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/buglist.cgi?classification=BIRT&target_milestone=2.2.0

BIRT 2.2 Graphical SQL Query Builder

The goal of the Graphical SQL Query Builder project is to take the Query Editor from the DTP project and integrate this into BIRT as a world-class query builder for creating SQL queries in a report.

At this stage, the contribution in the DTP project is not likely to be completed in time for us to use this in BIRT 2.2. For this reason, we are removing this plan item for the BIRT 2.2 plan. The plan has already been updated to show this.

BIRT Webinar

Jason held a webinar last week on BIRT for the community. There were some technical issues on the audio for the call -- but otherwise it went well with strong attendance.

The recorded presentation is available at: http://www.eclipse.org/community/webinars2006.php#BIRT.

BIRT Events

The following upcoming events will include talks on BIRT and/or Actuate sponsored BIRT booths:
