Hi, All

it seems that general discussion is over.

Let's start creating working groups.

Below you can find a list of proposed subjects ( draft compilation from the
group posts ). I bet a lot is missed, so everyone is welcome to suggest
additions or changes.

We do not have any feedbacks from people who initiated this webtools
project. That's very unfortunately, because the next step is to set up
mailing lists and cvs repositories.

Igor Malinin offered to use solareclipse on sourceforge. That might be a
good solution because he also (if I get it correctly) offered solareclipse
code as a start point for this project.

To initiate a working group just create a thread with name of the group as
the post subject if such thread is not already created. All interested to
participate should post replies within the thread. This way it would be much
easier to create initial mailing lists.

Regards.

1.General purpose tools:
- CSS editor
- XML editor /* probably, the first to develop, as it seems would be a
base to other flavors */
- HTML/XHTML editor
- XSL editor ( debugger ?)
- JSP editor ( debugger ? )
-...

2. EJB:
- wizards,
- builders,
- specific views,

3. Platform adapters: /* launch, debug mode, "in place" and standard
deployment, configurations , general and platform specific builders etc */
- Apache HTTP
- Jetty
- Tomcat
- Resin
- JRun
- WebLogic
- WebSphere
- JBoss
- OpenEJB
- ...

4. Frameworks tools: /* set of tools to design and develop application
within specific frameworks */
- JavaFaces
- Struts
- Eclipse web model ???

Great! .... I hope this will get into something real!
I have one question (perhaps is too specific), any ideas about how much
xdoclet-based this project will be? ... should exist a separated
xdoclet-admin project? ... or everything will be implemented in another
(perhaps new) way?

I assume this project should not be based on any specific technology.
The goal is to create a base framework for developing web related plugins.
This framework will define base abstractions, their common interfaces and
extension points. For instance, it should define "web" nature of the
project.

A quick example:
a simple deployment plugin uses local preferences dialogs to gather
information about what project resources are going to be deployed. The thing
is that probably this information is already defined by some other tools
used in the project. A more advanced plugin can discover that the project
has the "java" nature and then get references to all required jars and
classes automatically. "web" nature should provide similar functionality
related to the "web" resources.

All web tools components are not only Eclipse plugins. They also has to be
pluggable to each other as parts of general web platform.
This way we can have a variety of technology specific components that would
be used to configure a desired development environment.

xdoclet plugin is just one of many possible.

Regards,
Igor

Ok. I asked about xdoclet, because lomboz and myeclipse are xdoclet-based,
but i understand the "generality" of this project.
