Strange Problem Causing Hard Exit [message #84747] Fri, 08 July 2005 17:03

I am having a very strange problem within the last month or so. In both
M3 and M7, when I do something that uses the file dialog (like browse to
a file to set a Java build path variable), if I try to do anything in
the dialog other than OK or Cancel, Eclipse disappears. All that is
left on the screen is an exit message that the JVM shut down with and
exit value of 1, and a list of all the parameters used to start Eclipse.

The fact that this started while I was using M3 with no changes to
Eclipse, and continues in M7, I'm pretty sure it isn't directly an
Eclipse problem. However, I don't seem to have a problem using the file
finder in other applications, so I'm hoping someone can give me a clue
as to what may have changed in my Windows XP (SP2) environment to cause
this problem.

I have let the computer (an HP ZD7000 laptop) upgrade itself (HP and MS
software only, not Java) during that time, so I assume something in
there changed. I just don't know enough about how Eclipse interacts
with the file finder in XP to even start looking.

Any help would be appreciated. Even comiseration would be better than
nothing. SFSF
