Newbie installation problem [message #62670] Fri, 07 January 2005 14:26 Go to next message

Hi.

I unzipped the wtp-1.0M2.zip file and copied features and plugins to
eclipse.

I opened Eclipse and the following happens:
1. When I double click an XML file from Package Explorer / Navigator it
now opens within a web browser inside Eclipse.
2. When I double click a .js (JavaScript) file it tries to run it and I
get an error (as it is a part of a complete system).

Shouldn't they just open in the WebTools XML and JavaScript editors?

Am I doing something wrong?

Please help this Eclipse newbie...

Thanks,
Amnon

hmm... your installation seems to be right.. but...
perhaps you can check:

- if you use Eclipse3.1M4
- if you use a fresh installation of eclipse, so no plugins of other
verndors interfere
- what happens if you click with the right mouse button on the xml
file - is the XML Editor supported?
- check in the About dialog of Eclipse if the plugins are loaded
correctly (something like org.eclipse.wst.xml.ui.* should be in the list
for xml editing)

hope that helps...

regards,

Raphael

Yes.

Only the JettyLauncher plug-in. Any easy way of removal / dissabling
more elegantly than deleting files or creating a fresh install?

No.

Hmm. Nope, these are not there :-(

....just download the fresh Eclipse3.1M4 (if you don't have it right
now), extract it to another location than your actual Eclipse3.1 and use
another workspace (maybe inside the Eclipse3.1M4 installation
directory). Then copy the webtools features and plugins into it and
that's it. Elegant? I don't know - but it is easy, fast and doesn't
interfere with anything...

okay..
then it can't work...
try to install a "fresh" version of eclipse like I said above. That
helped me a lot in many cases...

Good luck,

Raphael

OK, fresh install.

Now I see the stuff in Plugin info.

But still it does the same strange stuff that I specified.

HELP!

Thanks,
Amnon

Where do I see what I need to install?

I have put the entire combined WST and JST distribution. Do I need
anything else?

Thanks,
Amnon

See the 'requirements' section of the build page: GEF, EMF, and JEM are pre-req'd.
http://download.eclipse.org/webtools/downloads/drops/S-1.0M2 -200412230036/index.html

If you in fact have those, and seeing problems, you might check the .log file in the
..metadata directory (in your workspace) as it will sometimes list errors that cause
funtion to be disabled.
