Hello,
i get an error message when I try to start Eclipse 3.1M6. The splash =
screen appears and after that I get a box that says 'An error has =
occurred. See the log file =
"/home/jens/eclipse/configuration/1115733377008.log"'.
I have spent some time on reading articles, bug reports and so on but no=
ne =
of the solutions worked for me. The error still remained the same. I hav=
e =
included the output of the error message an of the ldd-command on the =
library that is mentioned in the log.
I am using SuSE Linux 9.2, JDK 1.4.2_06-b03. I do have the JDK =
1.5.0_02-b09 installed as well but is this a problem? I hope you can hel=
p =
me here.
Looking in that message mentioned above gives the following output:

Jens,
You're running with a 32 bit 1.4.2 JRE. Try launching with the -vm
/path/to/1.5/jre argument to use the 1.5 JRE if it is the 64 bit
version. Otherwise, download and install the 64 bit 1.5 JRE from Sun's
site.
Hope this helps,
- Jeff

Hello Jeff,
thanks for your answer, it solved the problem for me.
There is one strange thing left to me. I use a 64Bit-version of SuSE and=
I =
worked with Eclipse 3.0.1 "rpm"ed by SuSE. Their version runs with the J=

1.4.2 but my downloaded version did not until I used the -vm argument.
But anyway, thanks for the hint

Jens,
In that case my guess would be that SuSE is packaging the 32 bit version
of Eclipse on it's 64 bit distribution.

Hi Jeff and others again,
Eclipse works now unless I start it directly from KDE (via a link on the=

desktop). When I do it that way, Eclipse crashes with the following =
message:
JVM terminated. Exit code=3D1
/usr/java/jdk1.5.0/bin/java
-Xms40m
-Xmx256m
-jar /opt/eclipse/startup.jar
-os linux
-ws gtk
-arch x86_64
-launcher /opt/eclipse/eclipse
-name Eclipse
-showsplash 600
-exitdata 1d0002
-vm /usr/java/jdk1.5.0/bin/java
-vmargs
-Xms40m
-Xmx256m
-jar /opt/eclipse/startup.jar
Starting Eclipse from a console does not seem to have this error at leas=
t =
so far as I can tell.
Maybe somebody of you has an explanation for this strange behaviour.
