Hi,

When i first started using Eclipse i thought there were three levels to
set options and that every lower level inherits and overrides the
settings of the upper level:

Global Level
  |
  | Inherits, overrides
  v
Workspace level
  |
  | Inhertis, overrides
  v
Project level

This seemed logical to me because it would enable one to set options in
such a way that they would be always the same for every workspace and
still have the possibility to change settings specific for one workspace
or even one project

However now that i have been working with Eclipse on some real projects
i discovered there is no 'global level' for options. This means that
- - every time i create a new workspace i'm welcomed with the default
settings again, and first have to start customizing it to have /my/
default settings in that workspace.
- - When i change a setting in one workspace (by example for a new plugin
i installed) i have to change it manually in all my other workspaces too.

So my question is:
- - Am i right on this? Is there really no global level? Or did i miss
something?
- - How do other people sync there 'global' settings between their
different workspaces? i'm sure i'm not the only one who has this problem?

I was thinking of making a 'default workspace' with all my
customizations so that i could clone that one whenever i want to create
a new workspace. But this wouldn't work for new/changed settings which i
want to apply to already existing workspaces.
Then i started thinking about putting my 'default workspace' under
source control (darcs would do well i think, http://darcs.net) so that i
would be able to change my settings in my 'default workspace' and then
sync my in-use workspaces with my 'default workspace' (from the repository).
Would this be an option?

Thx!
Greetz,
Jeroen
