Eugene,
Regarding Maynstall, now that the foundation provisioning components are
stable with p2 introduced in Eclipse 3.4, we'll be looking to increase
activity again on the Maynstall project. Since 2007 there has been ongoing
patches into CVS for particular point issues and we're now going to be working
on revitalizing the project and come up with a better plan on how to move
forward Maynstall in light of changes in Eclipse 3.4.
EPP has a few different technologies. The first main technology produced from
EPP had to do with bundling packages of popular Eclipse software together,
such as the pre-packaged Eclipse bundles like Java EE that you can get from
the Eclipse.org website. Recently there has been some work on an EPP Wizard
that allows you to have a RAP-based portal to let a user choose some base
software components and provide a p2-based installer to the user which has
instructions to download the software the user wants.

Eugene,
As in there are multiple provisioning technologies available, there
will always be overlap between products and projects just due to the
simple fact that the goal of these different solutions is to deliver
software to end users.
Maynstall was built and is focused on a targeted market. While there
is commonality with Yoxos and Pulse, it is not intended to be a
complete provisioning system. I believe if you dig deeper, you'll
find that the commercial solutions offer much broader solutions than
the Eclipse projects do.
Cheers,
Tim
