VE in WSAD 5.1 ? [message #5607] Wed, 26 November 2003 16:49 Go to next message

Hi,

I'm a bit curious wheiter or not the VE could be used with WSAD 5.1 :
- VE 0.5.0 is based on Eclipse 2.1.2, GEF 2.1.2 and EMF 1.1.1
- WSAD 5.1 is based on Eclipse 2.1.0

So if I upgrade WSAD 5 to Eclipse 2.1.2 (I haven't tried so maybe it's not
possible), then I can install VE 0.5.0 EMF 1.1.1 and GEF 2.1.2. Then what
happens with the JVE which is shipped with WSAD 5 ?
Can both editors coexist ? How to choose one form the other ? ...

So, anybody has a clue about that ? (actually my question is for VE
development team)

It should work fine. Of course, they are essentially the same, so what's
the motivation?

Not sure what is the goal; in any case, upgrading Eclipse on WSAD (as
well as EMF/GEF) would not be a supported WSAD configuration and is
likely to cause problems with various WSAD plugins.

Runing both VE and VEJ is not a supported configuration either. In the
future, WSAD will be based on IBM's WSWB (Eclipse) that will include VE
as the base for the VEJ.

The motivation is that even if both editors are very close, I think the one
shipped with WSAD is not usable yet for professional development. It is
really a pain to develop complex GUI with it and I think the new editor is
much better in that regard and it should be continually improving (at least
I hope so).

I was just curious if it was possible to use the VE before the next release
of WSAD which will be based on Eclipse 3 ... well at least I hope it's the
next one ;-)
