Dear Lucas
First of all we are aware of the PTP project and are looking forward to get
results from you as well. A close collaboration should be achieved in the
future. But let me just answer in short:
- g-Eclipse will concentrate on distributed Grid resources, while I see PTP
is addressing the needs of clusters (especially in parallel programming).
- Distributed in our case means resources in different administrative
domains.
- We don't want to contribute to Fortran development tools (or others), but
concentrate on Grid aspects of applications.
So here I see the difference, but the following similarities and synergies
exist as well:
- When we address the debugging of distributed Grid applications, we will
try to integrate tools that are already adressed by PTP. We don't want to
reinvent the wheel in this area, but use your results.
There is definitely the potential for collaboration, especially when we
think on MPI jobs on Grid infrastructures. May be we can discuss this on a
telephone call or perhaps on the Esslingen Eclipse Summit in October??
Feel free to ask for more details.
Best regards
Harald
