Are there any plans to remove this dependency? As far as I could tell from a
quick look it was mostly related to some Command classes.

Thanks

Richard,

EMF is used to understand the J2EE deployment descriptors (among other
things) by commands, operations, and viewers. So, it is unlikely that this
dependency will be removed. As more code is released into the repository
throughout the cycle, the reason for the dependency will become more
apparent.

Kind Regards,

Michael D. Elder

Thanks. Fair enough. But there seems to be interest in the
StructuredTextEditor class, independent of any J2EE connection.

We use that specifically to have a common comand and command stack with
other WTP components. There is work underway in the base Eclipse to
provide a common command and command stack, which we'd move to once
it was available. See https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=37716
