I'm using MacOS X 10.3.4 (Panther), Java 1.4.2. Since I haven't been able
to get VE to work,
I tried a clean reinstall.
I created a new directory containing these files:
eclipse-SDK-3.0-macosx-carbon.tar.gz
emf-sdo-runtime-2.0.0.zip
xsd-runtime-2.0.0.zip
GEF-runtime-3.0.zip
VE-runtime-S20040628.zip
I unstuffed eclipse-SDK-3.0-macosx-carbon.tar.gz, started it (just to be
sure it was OK)
and quit it again.
I unstuffed the other four files, moved all features and plugins to the
corresponding
Eclipse features and plugins directories (must be done manually on the
Mac), and started
Eclipse again.
I switched to the Java view, created a Java project, went to New->Visual
Class where I entered
a name, package name, and asked for a main method. This fails, and the log
file contains:
Internal Error
org.eclipse.jdt.ui
Jul 21, 2004 13:40:59.566
SyntaxError: The type java.lang.Object cannot be resolved. It is
indirectly referenced from required
class files
org.eclipse.ve.java.core

Can anyone tell from this what I'm doing wrong? Or does VE just not work
yet on a Mac?
If you can help, THANKS!

Looks like it's going to be a while:
---------
Note that the main reason for the delay on the Mac OS is that we need
to dive into Carbon code to figure out how to screen scrape images -
any help will be appreciated. We have just finished this effort with
GTK, and would work on Motif support next. ... Carbon is definitely
on the list.
---------
Also, the bug is listed as an "enhancement" problem. On the bugilla
pecking order, Enhancement is below Trivial.

David,
The VE doesn't run on OS X yet. Add yourself to the CC list on this bug
for updates on this front:
