I'm using eclipse 3.1.0 and TPTP 4.1.0 on Windows 2000 Professional with
java
1.4.2_09
I use the Sysdeo tomcat plugin to launch tomcat from within eclipse. Tomcat
version 5.0.28.
I have set my System environment PATH statement to point to the correct bin
folder for the TPTP agent. I can start the agent by running RAServer.exe.
I have successfully run TPTP in the previous release (3.3) using eclipse
3.0.1. The point of mentioning this is that I am not a complete novice to
TPTP; I'm no expert, either, but I have successfully installed and used it
before.
In the previous release of TPTP (3.x) and eclipse (3.0.1), I was able to
monitor my webapp by going to the Tomcat Plugin preferences page
(Window->Preferences->Tomcat->JVM Settings) and specifying the
-XrunpiAgent:server=enabled parameter, start Tomcat and then attach to
it from the Profiling and Logging perspective via Profile->Attach Java
Process. This allowed me to start and run tomcat as always, but turn on
monitoring if desired.
In the current relase, however, when I click the "Start Tomcat" button,
eclipse hangs. I have the RAServer runnning, so I know this is not the
issue. The "Start Tomcat" toolbar button image changes to the down state
(i.e., pressed) and then eclipse hangs completely, resulting in me having to
do a Ctl-Alt-Del/End Process to get it to shut down.
Thank you.

Hi,
I am trying to setup the Agent Controller as well to monitor a Tomcat
server (4.1.31). I was wondering if you could supply the
serviceconfig.xml as an example of how the Agent Controller can
run/control Tomcat.
Actually, if you know of an Article and/or document that describes how to
setup/use the Agent Controller. I have gone through the Eclipse Help and
some of the documents from EclipeCon 2005, but still can't put together a
cohesive picture of how all these pieces fit together.
thx in advance,
adym
