Can't Launch under MacOS X [message #1580] Mon, 21 April 2003 23:46 Go to next message

I tried a previous version of Eclipse and just downloaded the 2.1 version.
It doesn't seem to launch under 10.2.5 with j1.4.4. I searched for any
similar problems and fixes, but nothing came up. Launched from the icon or
the command line it attempts to start, does a few bounces and then quits.
I've tried deleting Eclipse entirely and downloading it again with no
success.

Is there any output on the Console ?

Any messages in workspace/.metadata/.log ?

Please make sure that you don't have any additional Java libraries
(e.g. xerces.jar) somewhere on your class path.

There is a known conflict with the Apache Xerces application. If you
have Xerces (specifically the xercesImpl.jar library) in your
classpath, Eclipse will not launch. Try removing that from your
classpath (it will probably be in the JDK lib/ext folder) and see if
that solves your problem.

There's a bug filed in the Eclipse bugzilla for this.

Jerry

That was the problem. I\\\'d been working with httpunit (which includes
xercesImpl.jar) and had added it in /Library/Java/Extensions. Moved it
elsewhere and just added to the classpath for the one thing I need it for.
Thanks, wish I\\\'d been able to find this information elsewhere but
hopefully it helps someone else.
