Reading local history [message #335384] Sun, 05 April 2009 19:43 Go to next message

Hi!

Is there a way to retrieve local history from outside of the Eclipse? I
can find files, but I do not know how to get their filenames,
timestamps... I see that there is an index for those files, but in which
format it is stored? How could I write a standalone program, which would
read local history?

I would like to make a program, which would from local history entries
estimate time spent on a project. From Word 6.0 times on I have a habit
of pressing ctrl-s after almost every line so local history entries do
represent quite well time I was working on a project. So I would like to
retrieve filenames and timestamps of all entries in local history, which
I would then process and try to estimate time spent on a project.

So in which format that index is stored? What would be the easiest way
to retrieve data stored there? Is there any standalone program which is
doing similar job? Any example? Any documentation? Reference?

Best regards

Mike

Have you looked at the Mylin plugin? It allows you to setup tasks and
will track the amount of time spent on them for you.

Yes, I checked it but it is too big an overhead for this project. It is
a small project where I am working from time to time on it with no real
task management, so it is hard to get some accurate data on how much I
have really worked on it. And as I understand Mylin requires disciplined
developer, which will manually click on which taks it is working at the
given moment.

Would be some other newsgroup more suitable for this question?
