| Eclipse Shutdown Problem [message #328714] | Mon, 02 June 2008 13:29 | |
| Eclipse User | | | | | Occasionally, in haste, I exit windows before exiting Eclipse. When I subsequently attempt to restart eclipse (on the workspace that was open
when I prematurely exited from windows), the launch process hangs up on
the splash screen, with some of the progress bar showing green. Other
 workspaces are unaffected.

My work-around has been (apart from taking more care when exiting
windows), to delete the .metadata/ directory in the affected workspace,
using the file-system browser, then to open the workspace (which
initially has no projects), then to import all the projects. Not
surprisingly, I also loose my java code templates, and other settings,
 at this point.

Recently I have found that deleting just the
 ../metadata/org.eclipse.core.resources directory gets around the
workspace launch problem, but other problems (launching ant project
builders) emerge. It seems that Eclipse is not able to handle my
disorderly conduct (not able to respond appropriately to shutdown
 warnings from windows).

Is there a better workaround than deleting .metadata/ ?

Should I report this as a bug?

 Bill.

I should have mentioned, I am running 3.3.1.1 on XP

Apologies, on further investigation, the .metadata/.log file indicates
that this may be a problem with a third party product (OxygenXML), so
 I'll take it to them.

| Eclipse User | | | | | If Eclipse hangs (during startup or otherwise), have a look at: http://wiki.eclipse.org/How_to_report_a_deadlock
