Hi all,

First please let me know if there is a better place to ask such question
;o).

Is there any eclipse plugins ready to use in order to setup a chat between
several remote people working all the day with eclipse ?

Thanks in advance

Manu

Manuel,

I think ECF provides stuff like that: http://www.eclipse.org/ecf/

There are a number of IRC groups, including #eclipse and #eclipse-dev
where folks hang out...

I use pidgin to connect...

I know you asked about an Eclipse plugin, so please just take this as an
input.

There is a facility in Netbeans which do exactly this, and also allow
you to "push" a project you are working on to your chat partners so they
can help you debug a problem.

I have played with it, but not used it for "real".

Hi all,

In fact we need a way to chat each other with in the company. It's almost
sure that we won't be able to chat outside the company.

ECF can be used to do this ?

Manu

Hi Ed,

I downloaded ECF and try to connect but nothing work. I think all the
ports used by IRC, XMPPS etc ... are blocked by the company firewall.

Do you know any easy way for me to setup a new IRC node and channel in
order to be able to chat with my colleagues with in the company ?

Thanks

Manu

PS : i will try ECF clients at home of course ;o)

It is quite easy to set up a Jabber server locally inside your company,
and there are many jabber clients including a java applet (e.g.
https://jwchat.jabber.dk/).

I believe there might even be a vmware appliance for the purpose.

Manuel,

I use pidgin. I don't really know much about how all this works. Nick
Boldt held my hand to set up the connections that allow me to hang out
on #eclipse-modeling

I've also included the ECF newsgroup on the "to" list of my reply so
they can offer help, though there's not much they can do to get around
your firewall issues.

Pidgin can be configured to use an HTTP proxy to get around many
firewall issues. Perhaps ECF has similar capability...?

Unfortunately, ECF does not support http tunneling for IRC at this point.

I've included on this email Christoph Schwering, who is the author of
IRCLib...which is the IRC communications library that ECF uses.

Christoph is actively working on IRCLib, and so hopefully will be able
to help us address this need.

I've also created this enhancement request to track this issue:

https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=221888

Thanks.

Hi all,

First, thanks for your support.

In fact i think i'll never be able to connect to an IRC node outside the
company even if i can configure my client to go through the firewall ...

I think what i need is a way to set up an internal IRC "server" and
channels .. I don't know how IRC works ... is there any way to do this ?

Regards
