I cannot install the latest Java (1.5) on my Macintosh Tiger OSX 4.0
because it says
the I do not have java SWU. What is java SWU and where do I get it? I
use Eclipse 3 as my IDE.

Googling for "java SWU" does not come up with anything useful. What is
the exact text of the error message you're getting? And FYI you'll have
to upgrade to Eclipse 3.1 to make use of Java 1.5's new language features.

Sounds like the Java Software Updater, but I can't figure out why it would complain about that. Where did you download the Java 1.5 from?

Alex.

You need to get the java installer directly from Apple. Look at
< http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/java2se50release3.htm l>, which
replaces
< http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/java2se50release1.htm l>. There
is a j2se50release4 coming which will make Java 1.5 the default, but
that is not yet out.
