Eclipse 3.3: Do these do the same thing: osgi.baseConfiguration.area and osgi.configuration.area.def [message #259352] Thu, 26 June 2008 20:24

Hi,

In Eclipse 3.3, does setting osgi.baseConfiguration.area result in the
same thing as setting osgi.configuration.area.default?
(and vice versa?)

In reading the Eclipse 3.3 online help topic about runtime options, it says:
osgi.baseConfiguration.area
"specifies a base configuration that is used when
osgi.configuration.area is not specified."

osgi.configuration.area.default
"the default configuration location for this run of the platform. The
configuration determines what plug-ins will run as well as various other
system settings. This value (i.e., the default setting) is only used if
no value for the osgi.configuration.area is set. See the section on
locations for more details."

The gist I get from those descriptions is that both of those come into
play if and only if osgi.configuration.area is not specified, which
means they effectively do the same thing.

Is my reading of that correct?

Thanks!
Lee Anne
