Hi,
I am new to eclipse. My system had eclipse earlier(on fedora 6). I
uninstalled it and installed it again using YUM. Installation completed
successfully. But I am not able to run the eclipse now. When I run it
exits without opening. And it shows the error message that

" An error has occurred. See the log file
/root/workspace/.metadata/.log. "

The first few lines of the log file is below.

Hi Priyan. It looks like you're trying to run Eclipse with the GNU Java,
which I think doesn't work. Take a look at the link below and see if
that helps.

Hi Mark,
Thanks for your reply.
I want to work on "C" on eclipse. So in that case can I avoid/disable java
in the current eclipse setup and start running eclipse successfully? If
that is possible then can I need to remove jdk? or any other changes? I
tried installing jdk and jre from sun-java. But this didn't help. Please
help me on this regard.
Thanks,
Priyan.

Hi Priyan. You need to tell Eclipse to use the Sun JRE. In the Wiki link
I put in my first reply, it has the following information:

make sure that it is the one being used by starting Eclipse with an
additional argument:

eclipse -vm /full/path/to/java/bin/java

The argument must point to the java or javaw executable, not
some wrapper script like run-java-tool, as used on Gentoo.

So you need to start Eclipse with the -vm as indicated above. HTH. Mark

Hi Mark,
Thanks for your support...
I have tried what you have mentioned.
I have installed "jre-6u4-linux-i586-rpm.bin" and
"jdk-6u4-linux-i586-rpm.bin"
(downloaded. size is 66488684 and 19125837 bytes) and used this to start
eclipse like below.

1) $ eclipse -vm /usr/java/jre1.6.0_04/bin/java (Try to start and gives
error)
(or)
2) $ eclipse -vm /usr/java/jdk1.6.0_04/bin/java (Try to start and gives
error)
(or)
3) $ eclipse -vm /usr/java/jdk1.6.0_04/bin/javaws (not executing at all)

After this the java executable is taken from the installed one(as per the
log).
For the 2)nd run (eclipse -vm /usr/java/jdk1.6.0_04/bin/java) I have given
the starting lines of the log below.

Please tell me if I have done anything wrong.
Also I don't know why this error message
"!MESSAGE Could not install bundle plugins/org.eclipse.pde.build/"
"!MESSAGE Product org.eclipse.sdk.ide could not be found"
is appearing. Does it indicate that anything wrong in the installation?
Kindly help me on this regard.
Thanks,
Priyan.

Hi Priyan. I'm sorry you're having these problems. It sounds like you
have installed Eclipse from RPM distributions, and it looks to me like
your Eclipse installation is not correct.

I would suggest downloading the Eclipse directly from Eclipse.org and
installing from the download. All you need to do to install it is unzip
the download somewhere in Linux. There are instructions on the Wiki, I
think.

Be sure to do this in a different directory from where your current
Eclipse is installed. If you do this, and use the same command line, I
think it should work. Otherwise, we'll have to get help from someone
that knows a lot more about this than I do. Hang in there. Mark
